We've Got This

Dear Members of the Golden Flash Community,

Just a quick note to say: We鈥檝e got this.

As we watch COVID-19 case counts rise, please know that we continue to follow the science, to follow guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and to follow the advice of local public health officials and our own experts, including professors from 91传媒在线鈥檚 College of Public Health.

I鈥檓 not being overly optimistic or naive. I鈥檝e watched our amazing team of 91传媒在线 pandemic response leaders address the threats, issues and questions of the day since March 2020.  This is the same group of advisors and experts that skillfully led us through the darkest days when our knowledge of the virus was still rudimentary, and vaccines were but a dream. It is the same group that produced so many triumphs and successes in the past academic year, triumphs and successes we will celebrate in part at Summer Commencement on Aug. 21, at Manchester Field in Kent.

It isn鈥檛 even as much as 鈥淲e鈥檝e got this,鈥 but rather, 鈥淵ou鈥檝e got this.鈥 Each of us holds the key to safe and successful days at 91传媒在线. Get vaccinated, it is the single most important thing you can do to assert control over the pandemic 鈥 and mask up. We are gaining more knowledge from continuing studies about the strong effectiveness of wearing face coverings to stop the spread of COVID-19, including this , released just days ago, which demonstrates the power of face coverings to stop the spread of COVID-19 in schools.

As we return to in-person work and in-person teaching, keep the faith. Our students are depending on us to see them through this moment in time. In some cases, they have gone more than a year without face-to-face instruction. We owe it to them to do all we can to meet their needs, including in-person instruction and enhanced mental health services.

Many universities across the nation have implemented COVID-19 vaccine mandates, but this option is not available to us in Ohio. Nevertheless, the glass is more than half full as we confront the pandemic because we know that wearing face coverings is effective at halting the spread of COVID-19 in educational settings.

Get vaccinated and mask up. It isn鈥檛 rocket science, it鈥檚 more important than rocket science.

We can safely teach our students, we will safely teach them with vaccinations and face coverings. We continue to move forward as a community that emphasizes the safety of everyone, not only in combatting COVID-19, but by addressing the mental health needs and meeting the financial aid needs of students more fully.  In a Flashes Take Care of Flashes world, we would expect no less.

We鈥檝e got this, 91传媒在线!

Sincerely,

Todd Diacon
President
